Start with the address, the yard and a few photos
A fence around Cincinnati is shaped by the slope it crosses, the clay it sits in and the rules of the street it faces, so a few lines about your yard save time on both ends.

What to put in your note
- Where the home is and how big the yard is. A rough length for the fence helps, even a guess paced off in steps, along with whether it closes in the whole backyard or runs along one side.
- What you want done. A new fence, a replacement, or repairs to an existing one. Mention the material you are leaning toward, such as wood privacy, vinyl, chain link or aluminum, and the height. If you are unsure whether to repair or replace, say so.
- Gates. How many, where they go, and whether any need to be wide enough for a mower, a trailer or a vehicle.
- Who the fence is for. Dogs that dig or jump, small children, or a pool that needs an enclosure all change the height, spacing and gate hardware.
- The lay of the land. Note any steep slope, drainage swale, creek, large trees or rock near the line.
- Neighborhood rules. If the home is in a subdivision with an HOA, say so, and share any fence guidelines you already have.
Photos worth taking
Take a few wide shots of the yard showing where the fence would run, standing at each corner if you can, so the slope and any obstacles show up. For a repair, add close-ups of leaning posts at the ground line, broken or rotted boards, and any gate that drags or will not latch. A photo of an existing survey or plat with the property line marked is useful too.
What happens after you reach out
Expect a reply from a local fence contractor to schedule a visit. During that visit they pace the line with you, measure it, and check the grade, trees, gate spots and room for digging. Afterward you get a written scope with the cost attached. Before anyone has stood in the yard, a figure would only be a guess.
If the fence is not urgent, reaching out in late summer or fall often means an easier schedule than the spring rush. If a storm has already knocked a section down, send photos anyway so a repair can be planned quickly.
Request a site visit
Share the address, the kind of fence and a rough length, and a fence contractor will reply to schedule a time to see the yard.
